Who Doesn’t Love Curtains???? Giveaway

For months now I’ve had baby fever. Obsessing over the perfect nursery and picking out crib bedding seemed to be the hardest part. I wanted something slightly sophisticated, very girly and not at all kitschy (I’m not sure that is an actual word but I use it to refer to designs that look cheap and generic). I didn’t want safari animals or cartoonish type designs.

I searched every site I could find and nothing was screaming at me. Until I came across Baby Bedding Zone’s site. They have a HUGE selection and free shipping on all orders over $99. Their prices are very reasonable and they have a 100% price match guarantee. They have everything from trendy polka dots to traditional animal prints to trains and ladybugs.  If we were having a boy I liked the Geo Blue and Chocolate Modern Geometric set.

I was so excited looking through their site at all the great bedding options. In fact, I had a hard time deciding between a few so I narrowed it down and then had Ryan decide. Luckily, he decided on the one I was leaning towards most.   We decided on the Pink and White Vintage French Toile 9 Piece Crib Set. It was exactly what I had been hoping for.

The baby’s room is almost done and this bedding set was the perfect choice. The fabric is soft and durable, the quality is first-rate and it looks like I paid a fortune for this set.  Thanks to Baby Bedding Zone, we have the matching mobile too. They sent me that item to review. It is beautiful. It really completes the whole look in the crib and was so easy to put together. I had it together and on the crib in a matter of 5 minutes.

Baby Bedding zone also sells regular bedding, toys and furniture. And many of the crib sets have matching bedding so as my child gets a little older we can keep the same theme throughout the room and just get the matching bedding for a fraction of the cost.

My favorite part of ordering from Baby Bedding Zone is the customer service. It is a small company, founded and run by a mom of 2 and she handles the customer service aspect personally and quickly. I had a question about price matching and I received a response within minutes at 11:30pm on a Saturday night! When was the last time that happened?

Cheerios Storybook Prize Pack Giveaway

I previously shared information on Cheerio’s 2011 New Author Contest. I recently received a copy of the book written by  the 2009 New Author Contest winner, Laurie Isop.

Laurie´s book “How Do You Hug a Porcupine?”  is currently being featured in more than three million specially-marked boxes of Cheerios and will also be available in bookstores nationwide beginning this July.

The book shows you the many different ways to hug any animal you can think of. And a little hint- if you want to hug a porcupine cover his thorns in marshmallows. Bruce liked the book and it has a lot of illustrations as well.

Laurie shared some tips to those interested in entering this year´s contest in this video. Check it out!

For this post, I received the biggest box of Cheerios I have ever seen, which contained the book- it was a 2lb box full of Cheerio goodness. You can’t imagine my level of happiness when I opened this package and saw that giant yellow box. I am one of those people who would eat Cheerios with blueberries for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I lived by myself; I have been known to do this in the past. And all those Cheerio commercials about the kids wanting to help their parents hearts – always makes me melt.

I also received a “create-your-own” book kit for kids. Bruce has already started writing a story of his own and drawing the illustrations. He’s writing a book about his favorite cartoon character, Ben 10. Can’t wait to see how it turns out.

    Joon Girl Review & Giveaway

I learned how to pronounce phthalate today. It’s thaylate (the ph is silent). After I learned how to pronounce it, I learned that these highly toxic chemicals are used to make plastic flexible. They are also absorbed by anything inside the plastic container, which is then absorbed by the person using that product. Because of this, they are found in most name brand beauty products, such as hair sprays, deodorants, skin lotions, shampoos, nail polishes, and body washes.

You might be asking why 1 little toxic chemical is so bad and can it make any difference to your health.

The answer is yes, especially in young girls!

Phthalates disrupt our endocrine systems and resemble estrogen. So, your body thinks it is producing estrogen when it isn’t. This results in early puberty, childhood obesity and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes and breast cancer in adulthood.

While eco-friendly products are popping up everywhere for babies and adults, there is a large group in between there who often get ignored – teenage girls. And who uses more beauty products than teenage and pre-teen girls? I’m pretty sure no one.

The Joon line of girls beauty products now has that covered.

The Joon products have NO parabens, phthalates, artificial color, or sodium lauryl (laureth) sulfates in any of their products. There are no animal ingredients and the products are not tested on animals.

I tried out several products. I liked the light fragrance in the products – I used the Sweet Vanilla and Flower Petal scent. It was not overpowering and didn’t bother my nose. It smelled clean and fresh – perfect for the summer time. There is a matching body mist too to wake up your senses throughout the day. This is the perfect beginner fragrance for young girls.

My favorite product was the Sunshine Sparkle Body Cream. If I was a pre-teen girl this would definitely be a necessity. It has sparkles in it! What girl doesn’t like to sparkle? I thought it was a fun touch and would look great with any outfit or dress for a fun night out, party, or special occasion. I thought it would be messy but it wasn’t. There was just enough sparkle without it getting everywhere. When I was done trying it out, I gave it to my girlfriend’s 13 year old daughter. Somewhere in NJ is a sparkley young girl having fun.

The Joon folks have a great feature on their website. Each month they chose a young lady (ages 6-13) who represents the ideals of Joon – being healthy, having fun, and connecting with the world – to be featured on their site.  SHe will also receive a goodie basket of JOON products and a JOON box of goodies to take to school and pass out to her friends !Enter your young lady today!

While the Joon products are available on their website, they are also now available at Whole Foods supermarkets in Florida. There are a number of upcoming events in Whole Foods stores
